PCC Bill Dunlevy joined the Ventura Downtown Lions Club in 1980 and quickly discovered the special joy that comes from helping others while working with his fellow Lions.
The club soon asked Bill to be the bulletin editor. A year later he was asked to become third vice president. He progressed up the chairs in his club and became club president in 1985 at the age of 33. He also became involved with his District, serving as District bulletin editor and chairman of the District’s Student Speakers Contest Committee. He served as a zone chair, region chair, and District secretary.
In 2007, Bill became District Governor. He inherited a District that had fallen to 1,182 members and 34 clubs. He is most proud of the fact that during his year, the members had fun working together to rebuild the district. At the end of his term, the District was up to 1,280 members and 36 clubs.
Bill was elected to be Council Chair for 2008-2009, serving a one-year term as the chief executive officer for the Lions of the state of California. His responsibilities included overseeing the MD4’s full-time office in Santa Barbara, as well as coordinating and chairing the four Council of Governors meetings and the MD4 convention. He also represented the California Lions in hosting the International President and First Lady at the Rose Parade and state convention.
Bill has continued his active role in Lions, serving for four years and as chairman of the MD4 Constitution and By-Laws Committee. He is currently a board member and secretary of the California Stu-dent Speakers Foundation which raises money each year for the scholarships that are awarded annually to deserving high school speakers from throughout the state of California.
